Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

Thanksgiving Quote

"If we meet someone who owes us thanks, we right away remember that. But how often do we meet someone to whom we owe thanks without remembering that?"

This quote is by Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and made me think about human nature.  It's true, we remember when it matters to us.  If someone owes us something then we fret and obsess about it, but if the shoe is on the other foot...  When do we remember?

Dr. Kelly Starrett

Becoming a Supple Leopard

Do you enjoy pain?  If not then check out this book.  This book was recommended to me by a massage therapist that I met recently at a Cbus Chic event.  I have not personally had a chance to read this book but plan to.  Another recommendation to alleviate pain is salonpas.  Just slap a couple of patches where you need it.  I had a friend that was suffering from fibromyalgia and I suggested these and she loved them so much that she spread the word.  Now these are sold everywhere.  And you thought word of mouth got you nowhere!  Just kidding!  :)

Thanksgiving Tanka

Gobble!

Eating alot.  Why?
So much to be thankful for.
Friends and family.

Not so much for the turkey
Unfortunately not so.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

Hopefully you were able to partake of a Thanksgiving meal with friends and/or family.  Sometimes we need to see our many blessings as opposed to what we don't have.  Especially when you see the homeless wandering the streets.

Frozen in Time

Are you frozen?

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

I wrote this poem based on the Disney movie Frozen.  Elsa and Anna have taken over the world by snowstorm.  A number of people have told me that their daughters are going about their day singing, "Let It Go!

Abraham Lincoln

"What is morally wrong cannot be politically correct."

I was listening to the radio this morning and someone quote this quote by Abraham Lincoln back in his day.  I wonder what he would think of what is going on in our world today?  A lot has changed in the past two decades.  I wonder what he would think about our government, healthcare, etc.

Poor Buffalo Tanka

Slop!  Sleet!  Slop!

Slush, slush, snow falls down...
Down and down and down and down...
Until white surrounds...

Five feet under and non-stop...
Snow still falls, poor Buffalo!

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

I thought I had it bad when I saw four to five inches of snow on my car recently but when I heard that Buffalo got five feet of snow, I felt like I had no right to complain anymore.  Sorry Buffalo!

Crystal Banks

The Four Smooth Stones

The Four Smooth Stones is a book for children written on the topic of fostering.  I had the opportunity to meet the author tonight quite by chance.  It's amazing when you are a writer, how many other writers you come across in your general day.

If you are a writer and love mysteries then check out Stop!  You're Killing Me...  This website is a place to discover any book titles that fall within the genre of mysteries.  A friend of mine recommended this site as a place to promote your book however I did not realize that they were only for mysteries until tonight.

I guess it's true!  You learn something new everyday!

John Bunyan

The Pilgrim's Progress

This is a book that I read ages ago.  It's about a man named Christian and his quest towards the Celestial City.  His two companions are Faithful and Hopeful for where would we be without Faith and Hope?  We all go through the Slough of Despond, Vanity Fair, and the Delectable Mountains on our life's journey.  So join Christian in his.

Cold Haiku

Brrr...

North pole?  No not here...
Polar vortex coming though.
I miss my summer!

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

Well...  it's a'comin'!  The cold winds, sleet and snow are on the way.  And it's not even Thanksgiving yet.  It seems like summer was not that long ago and fall came and went just like that.  Brrr...  If you come looking for me, I'll be under my blankets staying toasty warm.

Phoebe Cary

When Lovely Woman

When lovely woman wants a favor,
And finds, too late, that man won't bend,
What earthly circumstance can save her
From disappointment in the end?

The only way to bring him over,
The last experiment to try,
Whether a husband or a lover,
If he have feeling, is, to cry!

This poem was written by a poet from Ohio.  Phoebe Cary lived a long time ago.  She wrote poems with her sister and then on her own.  She was a strong advocate of women's civil rights.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning

Love Poetry

How do I love thee? Let me count the ways.
I love thee to the depth and breadth and height
My soul can reach, when feeling out of sight
For the ends of Being and ideal Grace.
I love thee to the level of everyday's
Most quiet need, by sun and candle-light.
I love thee freely, as men strive for Right;
I love thee purely, as they turn from Praise.
I love thee with a passion put to use
In my old griefs, and with my childhood's faith.
I love thee with a love I seemed to lose
With my lost saints, --- I love thee with the breath,
Smiles, tears, of all my life! --- and, if God choose,
I shall but love thee better after death.

Elizabeth Barrett Browning wrote love poems to her husband, Robert Browning.  Do you ever write love poems to someone you love?

Small Biz Tanka

Grow Your Biz

You start with a dream!
Is it feasible for you?
Why do you want this?

Pop your idea around.
What's the verdict?  Like or not?

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

I went to a small business expo and really enjoyed meeting all the people there.  There was so much to learn, and eat, and discover.  You have a dream and I have a dream.  These people made their dreams into realities.  Do you ever notice how people who follow their dreams are happier?

TGIF Tanka

TGIF

It's been a long week...
What did I do?  What did I
say?  It's almost gone.

Ahh!  The weekend's coming soon.
What to do?  What do I say?

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

Enjoy your weekend!  Life's good!  Remember don't waste time because time comes and goes no matter what you do.  Can you believe it is almost Thanksgiving?  Yummy food!  Big stomach rolls around while you drool out of your tongue!  Not sure why I wrote that...  It has a certain ring though.  Hmmm...

Pink

Why pink?

Pink is pink because
it stands for cancer and for
pretty pink flowers.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

As you can probably tell my favorite color is pink.  I even like some of the songs by the musical composer Pink.  And I like the pink panther.  Presently I don't have a pink room, but I did paint my room pink once upon a time.

Malachi

3:10

"Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it."

Have you ever read this passage from the Bible?  What does it mean to you?  My brother and I had a discussion about this a long time ago to figure out if this had any merit.  We felt that it did.  I remember periods in my life when I was not financially secure and would give less and less to God because of it.  However the less I gave the less I received.  Oddly enough, even when I don't think I have a lot, if I give more to God, the more I receive.  This past year I have been doing a lot of things pro bono.  And in return I have been given a lot of things for free.  At times, it doesn't make sense.  I remember my brother telling me that when he donated money to Salvation Army that things always went smoother for him but during a period when he stopped, then a bunch of little things made his life more difficult.  I have to agree.  The more I donate, the more easier life seems.  And when I don't, I have expenses cropping up out of nowhere.  This is a direct challenge from God.  Are you up for the challenge?  It's very much like paying it forward.  And what goes around comes around.

A Balloon Festival

Which never quite got off the ground this year due to weather...
