Solomon's Song

"The sadness and the tenderness of life are felt so acutely in the presence of beauty, and love is revealed more in our sorrow than in our joy."  -Solomon, from Solomon's Song

Who doesn't want a love story with a happy ending?  However not all love stories end happily ever after.  I watch Nicholas Sparks movies here and there and they are twisted.  His love stories are bittersweet.  But sometimes the bittersweet ones are the most poignant and the most memorable.

Solomon's Song brings the Biblical account of the Songs of Solomon to life.  In life, people come and go but you always remember the ones you love especially your first love and the love of your life.

One Winter Night

One Winter Knight

Cold and brisk
was one snowy night.

The moon shone
with a glowing light.

And snow piled up
in varying heights.

During this
coldest of nights.

When out of nowhere
came a mysterious stranger.

Who came to check
for any signs of danger.

A good samaritan
was he.

And he helped me out
of a snowy disaster
or else I would be
still stuck
amidst a snowdrift.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

Thanks to the winter knight that helped out a damsel in distress!

David & Goliath

One Small Stone

One small stone
was all it took
to bring a giant
to the ground.

To think that
everyone
around him trembled
and was afraid.

Even the
mighty soldiers
did not want to
tangle with this hulk.

All it took
was one small boy
with courage
and a heart for God.

And with one
small stone
the giant tumbled
and was slain.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

We all have giants in our lives that we sometimes are too scared to face.  A friend of mine dealt with her giant and it seems that I will have to deal with mine.  It's surprising to realize that sometimes it doesn't take a wide array of arsenal to take down a giant, just one little stone.  All you need is just one little stone.

A Kiddie Poem

Kids at Play

A little baby toddler
crawling all
over the floor
gets jumped on by
his big sister
who's boisterous
to her core.

As he crawls through
his caterpillar tunnel
his sister plays
peekaboo
while I sit
on the couch
watching their silly maze.

I like to
hear their laughter.
I like to
see them play.
I have to
watch so carefully
that toddler doesn't go.

Oh no!
Big sis jumped
on him again.
My job is
to make sure
he doesn't feel
any type of pain.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

This poem is dedicated to someone who is like a sister to me.  I sometimes watch her kid(s) for her so she and her hubby can go out to play since all parents deserve a night out.  Her kids are adorable.  So cute!  I feel like her little son is the guy in my life.  It's funny but my most memorable marriage proposal was from a kid.  And another friend's son whispered to his mom if he could invite me to spend the night.  Kids say the darndest things!

Walking in a Snow Globe

Waiting for a light
to turn red so I can walk
across but sirens
are getting louder until
a fire engine stops.  Why?

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

This past weekend I was waiting to walk across a crosswalk and noticed a fire engine stop.  Odd don't you think?  Sirens were blaring and yet it stopped.

There is something about being downtown especially when you drive past a bread factory and smell that smell.  Mmmmmmm...

Emily Bronte

"Whatever our souls are made of, his and mine are the same."

This is a quote by Emily Bronte.  Do you believe in the idea of soulmates?  Do they truly exist?  Or is it just a figment of the imagination?  I believe they do.  I think there is a special chemistry that you feel with a very few.  It's not something you can physically touch but if you have it you feel it from the first time you meet.  Although you may not realize it at first.  Especially if you are distracted by other things in life.

Dr Gary Frazier

Hell is For Real

Heaven and hell...  Two things that some people don't want to think about but what if heaven is for real and hell is for real?  Where do you think you will end up?  It's going to be one or the other, don't you think?  Dr. Gary Frazier wrote a book about hell for that exact reason.  Think about it.  If good and evil exist in this present world then what makes sense?

Music

A Haunting Melody...

A quiet place to listen...
A quiet place to rest...
listening to a melody
that reaches your innermost soul.

A haunting melody
that brings back memories
of good times and bad
and sometimes makes you sad.

I remember different
types of music
and where the music played.
Remembrances of places I've been.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

I remember spending a summer in Connecticut and the different kinds of music I listened to there.  Listening to Hotel California makes me think of Connecticut which is really odd because you would think it would make me think of California.  That's the summer I learned to dance.

Remember the song, The Three Little Pigs?  That was entertaining because the pig voices were so high...  That song makes me think of Wisconsin only because that song played over and over again on MTV.

My favorite instrumental composer is Giovanni.  His music is so cathartic it makes your soul want to cry.

Jack's Life

This book is a personal memoir of C S Lewis written by his stepson.  C S Lewis was at one time an atheist.  Read this book and find out why he no longer was one.  What does C S stand for?  It stands for Clive Staples.  However all of his good friends knew him as Jack!

Friendship With Love

A Dog & A Squirrel

A dog goes
round and round
chasing a tail
that is forever
moving.

A squirrel
runs up a tree
and down
a tree.
Up down!

One day
the squirrel
spies the dog.
Hmmm...
what do I see?

The dog is
thinking
really a squirrel?
Why me?
Why thee?

However through
circumstances
that fall into place
they fall in love
together.

And now they're
married and
expecting
a new creation
all their own.

What is the
likely outcome
of an unusual
pairing?
Something cute!

Don't you think?

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

Here'a poem dedicated to a couple that is expecting their first child.  They got through their college years together and tied the knot not too long ago.  Congrats my youngest sibling!

Friendships Last

Multi-Faceted Friends

When I was a child
I had a best friend.
We used to have
fun
holding our own
with the guys
that would tease us.

Then I got older
and my friends
were my clubhouse.
In fact
we spent endless
summers playing
kickball and biking.

Teenage friendships
were all about
crushes
and
notes we would
pass going from
one class to the other.

College friends
you keep or
you let go of.
Because
life goes on
and college
doesn't stay the same.

Then you get older
and everyone's
tougher
with
having
experienced
love and love lost.

Heartbroken
we linger
and then
we
let go.
but
we survive!

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

I was thinking of the different friends I have and how they make my world go round.  Some I've known for ages.  In fact I have a best friend that I've known since I was 12.  I have another best friend that I've been friends with since college.  And another best friend that I've known for almost two decades. They are like sisters to me.  I have others too!  Each friend is different.  Multi-faceted in fact.

I have made many friends since that I value a lot.  It's true as the girl scouts say, "One is silver and the other gold."  The interesting thing about friendships is that each friend you have brings out different parts of you.  The more friends you have, the more rounded you become.  At least that's what I think.  And one telling thing about going through the bad times is that then you know who your real friends are.

Very Cold

Perpetual cold
and more to come because why
groundhog sees shadow.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

Unfortunately the groundhog saw his shadow and so we have six more weeks of winter.  I for one am not happy.  In fact I would be exceedingly glad to live somewhere where winter just lasted for a week.  Woe is me!  Brrr...
