October Haiku

Golden Tones

The sunlight shines through
my window every morning
as if to smile!

@Josh Popcorn Poetry

Life is sometimes about taking a leap of faith but it is also about taking baby steps.  Take life one day at a time and you will get there.  Life happens everyday.  Ultimately you define what your life is going to look like:  The choices you make, the things you value, what and who you surround yourselves with.  And sometimes love comes like a bolt of lightning and sometimes love comes softly.

Reinhold Niebuhr

The Serenity Prayer

God grant me the serenity
to accept the things I cannot change;
courage to change the things I can;
and wisdom to know the difference.

This prayer is one that is pretty well-known.  It is a prayer to help people realize that God is in control even among the chaos.  Obviously we can't control everything surrounding us but ultimately there is someone in control and he can do the impossible if we only let him.

"Everybody is Somebody's Idea of Weird"

It's true!  We are all weird.  We all have idiosyncrasies that make us stand out from others.  Think about the tale of the Ugly Duckling who grew up to be a swan.  And Rudolph who was made fun of only to save Christmas for everyone.  I don't even know where I heard this quote but it just stuck with me over the years.  Have a good weekend!  Life is going by too fast!

Charles Hanson Towne

Around the Corner

Around the corner I have a friend,
In this great city that has no end,
Yet the days go by and weeks rush on,
And before I know it, a year is gone.

I think we can all empathize with the predicament written in this poetry.  Especially in today's world of modern technology. We have become such a busy people that days go by before we think to do something that really matters.  As Solomon learned the hard way, "everything is meaningless."

Jesus Calling

A good friend of mine gave me this book on my birthday one year.  This devotional has been a very heartfelt comfort for me during the ups and downs of this past year.  The ironic thing is that no matter what I go through there is something in this devotional that has really spoken to me.  I really needed to read this exactly when I needed to hear it.

October Tanka

Orange Yellow

Thinking of pumpkin
spice and everything just nice
that autumn means to...

Me!  To say farewell summer
and hey fall before winter.

@JoSH Popcorn Poet

It's amazing how fast time has flown.  Like in an instant.  We are constantly on the go.  I feel lately that I have been slowing down at times just to soak in nature.  I went out into the country to see cornfields and blue skies:  An occasional cow and pony perhaps.  I ran into friends.  It's always serendipitous when you run into people you know.

Terry Wardle

Healing Path Healing Prayer

I went to a seminar given by this author years ago and found it to be a wealth of important information.  It's where I picked up the term "guilty pleasure."  Lol!  But most importantly it gave me insight into the book of Lamentations and what that book is about.  If you are in a place, you don't want to be.  You don't have to stay there.  You can move on.  You can change.  You just have to want to.  Know what I mean?

Safe People

We are all human and so we do seek community, friendships, love, etc.  However we also know that in this day and age we must all be careful because there are abusers out there.  This book was written to help us identify traits in people to help us keep ourselves safe.

Sailing Haiku

To Sail at Sea

Sailing devotion...
Utterly abandoned why?
Just to set sail.

@JoSH Popcorn Poetry

Don't know if you've ever been on a boat...  but there is something about being in the quiet of a sailboat.  When it's still and when it's windy.  I love it when it's windy.  I remember being on a sailboat once when it was quite windy out and the boat was almost tilted at a 45 degree angle.  What a rush!  :)

Beware of Those

Beware of those who are bitter,
For they will never allow you
To enjoy your fruit.

Beware of those who criticize you
When you deserve some praise for an achievement,
For they secretly desire to be worshiped.

Beware of those who are needy or stingy,
For they would rather sting you
Than give you anything.

I thought this was rather an interesting poem after having read it.  And I came upon it quite by chance.  Unfortunately there are dream destroyers out there and also a lot of petty people who would rather see others fail then to succeed.  This just an excerpt of the entire poem.
