Louisa May Alcott

Little Women

This book is an enjoyable classic.  It is a long book but that still did not keep me from reading it several times through when I was younger.  Recently a movie came out with a modern twist.

The story is about four sisters who interfere and rejoice in each others lives when the moments appear.  One of the sisters is Jo March who is a writer.  Writers are a special breed because they live to write even when that means they are not making money from it.  Think of starving artists...  Many writers struggled for years before they became bestsellers.  Jo March is also a tomboy.  I identify with her because I was a tomboy when I was younger.  I used to hang out with my brother and his friends.  We used to have a lot of fun playing outdoor sports.  I think it took me a long time to grow up.  I would have liked remaining a kid forever.

John

8:7

When they kept on questioning him, he straightened up and said to them, "Let any one of you who is without sin be the first to throw a stone at her."

The more technologically advanced we become the more mudslinging occurs especially during elections.  Have you noticed that?  During elections people who are generally of good behavior begin saying the most awful things about each other.  And then when the elections are over life goes on and they are civil again.  Why is it that we reduce ourselves that way?

A long time ago a woman was dragged through the streets because she had committed adultery.  Her accusers stood ready to stone her.  However this verse was said and the accusers let their stones drop and walked away one by one.  Why?  Because they had committed the same sin.  Everyone sins however not all of us are exposed to the public scrutiny that certain political figures and celebrities have.  Being in the limelight has its downfalls.  If your entire past was put on the front page of a newspaper how would you feel?  Are you without sin?  Have you never done anything wrong?  Ponder this!

Life Without Limits

Everybody has good days and everyone has bad days.  However some people overcome challenges that others will never have to face.  If you were to walk in someone else's shoes for a day what do you think it would be like?  Life is what you make it and only you can make it what it is.  You can be bitter or you can be amazing!  So choose to be amazing!

When Is It Right To Die?

If you are ever in a life changing accident how would you choose to handle it?  Some go on and live amazing lives while others choose death over life.  Some people can't deal with a life less than what they were used to.  Remember the movie, Me Before You?  It was actually inspired by a rugby player that made that decision.  However then you have people like Joni that lives her life as she is.

L M Montgomery

“Kindred spirits are not so scarce as I used to think. It's splendid to find out there are so many of them in the world.”

What a dreary world it would be without friends.  I have been fortunate that I make friends easily.  I have a number of them that I have known for a very long time.  And I am always meeting new ones.  I have friends of all ages and cultural backgrounds.  I think the more friends you have the more well-rounded you become.  If you were to hang out with the same people day in and day out and never meet anyone new you might become stagnant.  Some friendships are golden.  Some are silver.  But true friends are the best.  Especially ones that want what's best for you...

Friends Are Like Flowers

Chasing Sunflowers

An autumn day beckons
with a brightly shining sun...

The friendly four
set out towards tall cornfields
and hungry jersey cows
only to encounter
a field of vast sunflowers
leaning to and fro
just as the evening sunset wanes.

This sunny display
reaches deep into the soul
awakening a thirst for
nature's beauty.

The friends
smile at each other
sharing in the moment.

Over the years I have come across friends who I consider to be kindred spirits.  I am so thankful for each and every one:  Friends who make me laugh and listen when I cry...  Friends who are there during sorrow and troubled times...  Friends who want what's best for me...  Friends who I can be myself with and who like me just as I am...  Friends who can enjoy the simple things that life has to offer...  like chasing sunflowers...  :)

The Milieu

What kind of world do we live in?  Do we know what we are capable of?  Do we play God?  What happens if one day the machines do rule the world?  Are we giving artificial intelligence more power than we should?  Is the cyborg not far behind?

When I Lay My Isaac Down

Recently I attended a women's conference where I got to meet this powerful speaker and author.  I got to hear her testimony firsthand of her tremendous journey and that of her family.  Sometimes in life things happen that we never would have foreseen and yet they do happen to us.  What happens when we go through the valleys?

Romans

7:15-24

"For I do not understand my own actions. For I do not do what I want, but I do the very thing I hate. Now if I do what I do not want, I agree with the law, that it is good. So now it is no longer I who do it, but sin that dwells within me. For I know that nothing good dwells in me, that is, in my flesh. For I have the desire to do what is right, but not the ability to carry it out. For I do not do the good I want, but the evil I do not want is what I keep on doing..."

Sometimes they say that we are our own worst enemy.  Humans are what we are...  Not perfect beings...  We fall into temptation...  We hate...  We kill...  We destroy...  This is what happens to humanity without moral character and virtue...  Are we capable of living a virtuous life?  Do we even want to?  This is a personal choice...  You have the power to choose...
