Rainy Day Haiku

Rain

Curled up in my bed...
Reading a riveting book...
Waits for rain to stop!

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

What better way to spend a rainy day but in bed reading!  This only works if you are a bookworm, which I am.  Happy Weekend!  :)

Kit Kat

Kitty Kat Riddle

When is a kitty not a kitty?
When it's a Kit Kat bar!
When is a peanut not nice?
When it Snickers!
When is a $100,000 less than a dollar?
When it's a Grand candy bar!
What kind of chocolate is out of this world?
When it's a Mars bar!
Are you in the mood for chocolate?
Because it might be in the mood for you!

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

You never know when you might be caught in the grip of a chocolate rush!  Yummy!

Sailing...

Adrift

Existing in a mental daze
and soaking up the summer sun
while gazing as the clouds drift by
in enigmatic puffs of cotton on blue.

The spark of something deep within
comes to life on board a sailing vessel
while surrounded by kindred spirits
who share in the calm surrounding you.

Would that this day could last forever
just being where the sea meets the sky
and basking in the retreating rays
as sundown marks the coming night.

Adrift, alone, or not...
But feeling contentment
and being lulled by
the gentle rocking of a boat.

@JoSH Poetic Popcorn Poetry

I don't sail often but when I do it's memorable!  There's something so utterly relaxing about being out on the water in a boat just being.

Emily Dickinson

I'm nobody!  Who are you?

I'm nobody!  Who are you?
Are you nobody, too?
Then there's a pair of us -- don't tell!
They'd banish -- you know!

How dreary to be somebody!
How public like a frog
To tell one's name the livelong day
To an admiring bog!

This poem is by Emily Dickinson.  I like this poem because like some writers and artists I tend to be somewhat reclusive at times.  Don't get me wrong, I'm a very social person and enjoy times spent with my family and friends but I also like to spend time with just myself.  If you think about it:  Me, myself, and I...

Geoffrey Chaucer

The Canterbury Tales

Do you dream of days of yore?  If you do then you might like to read this collections of stories by Geoffrey Chaucer in middle English.  If you've ever read A Knight's Tale, then you know the answer to this riddle:  What do women want most?

John Greenleaf Whittier

Maud Muller

God pity them both and pity us all,
Who vainly the dreams of youth recall.

For of all sad words of tongue or pen,
The saddest are these: "It might have been!"

Ah, well! for us all some sweet hope lies
Deeply buried from human eyes;

And, in the hereafter, angels may
Roll the stone from its grave away!

This is an excerpt from a poem by John Greenleaf Whittier.  I like this poem because it's about lost loves.  I think we all have them somewhere in our closets:  The skeletons from love stories past that "might have been."  Whose to say if we choose wisely or not?  They always say that those who choose with their hearts are happiest.

Robert Frost

The Road Not Taken

I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I,
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

This poem excerpt is by Robert Frost and another favorite.  I like the question it poses.  It's a metaphor for the decisions we make in our lives.  Whether you realize it or not each and every decision you make impacts your life in some way, some more profoundly than others.

Think back on 9/11...  Talk about a profound decision and how it would have impacted your life had you gone to the twin towers to visit that day or taken that day off from work.

Sliding Doors is an interesting movie about decisions and how they impact your life.

Henry David Thoreau

Walden Pond

"Men lead lives of quiet desperation..."  This is a favorite quote of mine because I strive to not live my life quietly desperate.  I had to read Thoreau's book years ago for an English class and believe me, his book is not an easy one to get through.  However there are always bits that you remember.  This is the bit I remember.  This is the kind of quote that makes you think Carpe Diem!  It's time to seize this day!

Nanette Marie

Mamas' Drama

So I was waiting at my doctor's office this past week and met the author of Mamas' Drama quite by chance.  She was waiting too and after I asked her for the time told me about her book and gave me a bookmark about her play. Her book has been produced into a play that is being shown in a number of states.  This book is a story about her life and she has been divinely led to share her story. It's sounds like an interesting read!  And who thought authors don't hang out in doctor's waiting rooms?

Ecclesiastes

Chapter 3

There is a time for everything,
and a season for every activity under the heavens:
a time to be born and a time to die,
a time to plant and a time to uproot,
a time to kill and a time to heal,
a time to tear down and a time to build,
a time to weep and a time to laugh,
a time to mourn and a time to dance,
a time to scatter stones and a time to gather them,
a time to embrace and a time to refrain from embracing,
a time to search and a time to give up,
a time to keep and a time to throw away,
a time to tear and a time to mend,
a time to be silent and a time to speak,
a time to love and a time to hate,
a time for war and a time for peace.

Don't you ever wonder what King Solomon meant when writing this?  He asked for wisdom and denied himself nothing, but in looking he was not satisfied with all the wealth and women in the world.  In fact, the women were his downfall.

Joel Rosenberg

Things that make you go hmmm....

I was talking to my dad's friend a while back and she told me about a book her mother was reading while vacationing in Israel.  Evidently this author writes science-fiction books but the odd thing was that after he wrote the books, the things written in his books start to become true.  I heard an interview on the radio about Joel Rosenberg and he said he gets his ideas from angels.  It's something to think about.

Herman Melville

Moby Dick

Who was Moby Dick?
But a giant white whale
hunted by Captain Ahab
all over the boisterous seas.
What a strange tale
was Moby Dick!

I HAD TO read this book in my younger college days and boy was it ever long!  The first line is, "Call me Ishmael..."  There are some things in life that you quite don't understand how you made it through, but at least I can say that I have read this book.  Although personally I prefer other genres.  This is a classic however.

Tuesday Tanka

Hmmm...

Tuesdays not hump day!
Neither is it the first day
of the week, right-o?

But it's great to have a day
where you can relax and veg!

Just a fun ditty for a day that is neither Monday nor hump day!  Enjoy your week!

When God Winks at You

This is a great little inspirational book about the coincidences that happen in your life.  Are they really coincidences or is God sending you a message?  It's an easy and fast read.  I hope you enjoy it as much as I did!  :)

because a thing of beauty
lasts forever in thought.

A funny funnie!

Sometimes you just have to read the funnies!  I used to love reading the funnies and would read them all each and every Sunday but it seems as you get older you just don't have as much time and so you read the ones you really want to read and skim through the others.  I guess you would call it being selective.  Or possibly ADD.  You never know!  Have a good weekend!  :)
