Erin Lamb

Confident and Free

An author friend of mine just published her second book.  Why not check it out?  I can't imagine that it's easy writing a book.  I've been thinking of writing one and I really should but it's a tad overwhelming to think about.  Don't you think?  However don't waste time when you could be accomplishing something.  Way to go Erin!

Roberta Kells Dorr

David and Bathsheba

I have read a previous book by this author as well as this one and she does have a way of bringing the stories of these historical characters to life.  I found the book riveting.  It's one thing to read a story in the Bible but another to read it in novel form.  For one thing it's longer.  The lives we lead...

David & Bathsheba

Nathan's Warning

The king was restless
and walked about the rooftops...
Spying a woman bathing
he sent for her...
When it became
known that a baby was coming
he sent her husband
into battle to be killed
and took this man's wife
to be his wife but then the baby died.
God was displeased
and sent a prophet
to warn the king of his wrongdoing.
The king repented
but was duly warned
of the curse upon his children:
A son would rape a daughter...
A son would kill his brother...
God forgives a repentant sinner
but the consequences will still be there.
Be duly warned that sin does not go unpunished.

Christians sin just like other people but if they repent God forgives them but they still have to face the consequences of their actions.  David and Bathsheba's baby died.  And David's children were cursed for the sins of their father.  If you would rather have blessings than curses then err on the side of caution and avoid temptation.

Proverbs

1

"for gaining wisdom and instruction;
    for understanding words of insight;
for receiving instruction in prudent behavior,
doing what is right and just and fair;"

What to do?  What to do?  Do you know what to do?  Do you know how to live your life?  For every action there is a reaction...  For every action there is a consequence...  Some people live by the rules and some do not...  Some people are wise and some people live as fools...

Why Oh Why?

Goldilocks Syndrome

As we go about our daily lives
we seldom think
of the place we reside
when we are not there.
The majority of people
trust the man with the skeleton key.
However what if that man
uses his key for a hideous purpose?
Suppose he unlocks your door
when you're not there
so that he pretends that he lives there?
He eats your food,
showers in your bathroom,
checks out your clothes,
and sleeps in your bed...
When you get home
you don't realize that
the man with the skeleton key
was there...

When you have a roommate and something is out of place then you naturally assume that your roommate did it.  However when you live by yourself then you think, did I forget?  Why is that there?  And didn't I leave that here?  Once upon a time, I had maintenance guys come into my place to fix something, one guy had terrible body odor.  Wouldn't you know but that night when I got home I could smell his body odor on my bed...  Why would he do such a thing?  And why did he think it was OK to do?  We trust people to do the right thing but they don't always, do they?

Ralph Wood

The Gospel According to Tolkien

What came first?  The chicken or the egg?  Lewis or TolkienThe Lord of the Rings Trilogy is widely popular among people of all ages.  The classic conflict between good and evil plays itself out in this movie.  Do you ever think about the writers of these books and why they wrote what they did?

Just In Case You Ever Wonder

What is unconditional love?  Are you able to love others around you unconditionally?  God can!  And sometimes parents can love their kids unconditionally...  However sometimes this can be a challenge for some people especially for those that are too involved in self-love.  For instance, remember Snow White's wicked stepmother?  The Queen wanted to be the fairest in the land and could not stand the fact that her stepdaughter was more fairer than she.  Selfish people have a hard time loving unconditionally because they want all the attention for themselves.  Heaven forbid that they have to share the spotlight with their own child.

Deuteronomy

28:15-68

"However, if you do not obey the Lord your God and do not carefully follow all his commands and decrees I am giving you today, all these curses will come on you and overtake you:"

God is a God of love, however he is also a God of justice.  He expects us to keep the Ten Commandments and to follow his commands...  There are consequences to the sin we allow in our lives.  People think that we can do whatever we want and live our lives however we want but one day there will be a day of reckoning.  People can fool other people but God knows our hearts and acts accordingly...

The Quiet Book

Shhh...  You want to tell your child...  Why?  Because sometimes it might be a time to be loud but then again it might be a time to be quiet.  Not unlike Ecclesiastes when there is a time for this and a time for everything under the sun.  So shhh...
